What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is a gel like substance that is naturally produced by the body. It is responsible for lubricating our joints and keeping our skin strong and flexible.
Hyaluronic Acid injections is used by many branches of medicine including Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery.
You can inject Hyaluronic Acid into the penis?
Yes we can. In fact, many Doctors all over the globe has been doing it and publishing their results in scientific journals. More commonly, Hyaluronic Acid is injected into the penis shaft to increase penis girth. We discussed this in a previous article that you can read HERE.
To treat Premature Ejaculation, the Hyaluronic Acid is injected into the penis head (also known as the Glans Penis).
How does it work exactly?
During an erection, the nerve endings in the penis head are pushed closer to the skin surface. This increases its sensitivity. In some men, the head becomes so sensitive that it triggers off an ejaculation reflex very quickly. More importantly, men and/or their partners may feel frustrated because he has no control over when he ejaculates.
Hyaluronic Acid acts as a physical barrier between the nerve endings and the skin surface. This is how it reduces sensitivity of the head and prolongs time to ejaculation.
How is it done?
There are several techniques. Essentially we will use a small needle to inject Hyaluronic Acid into the penis head. The Hyaluronic Acid gel is injected just under the skin so you will see the injected area swell up immediately.
Is it painful?
We will apply a numbing cream of the head before the injection. The filler we use contains a local anesthetic so as we inject, there is little to no discomfort.
Will the penis head look bigger after the injection?
Yes. Hyaluronic Acid is a gel that will sit under the skin. After the injection, the head of the penis will be larger than before.
What happens after the treatment?
We will advise you to avoid sexual intercourse for 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment. This is to allow time for the Hyaluronic Acid to “set”.
How long does it last?
Hyaluronic Acid is naturally absorbed by the body. It takes 12 to 18 months for the Hyaluronic Acid to be absorbed. However, clinical studies have found that patients report an improvement in ejaculation time even up to 5 years after the treatment.
Is it safe?
As with any medical procedure, there are possible complications. Therefore it is important to see a Doctor who is experienced with penis Hyaluronic Injections and understand the possible risks before you decide to proceed.
Common possible side effects include bruising, bleeding and blood clots. This risk is higher is you are taking medicines that thin the blood.
Another common possible side effect is lumpiness of the penis. This happens when the Hyaluronic Acid is deposited unevenly. However, this usually can be fixed by molding the penis after the treatment. Also the Hyaluronic Acid is naturally absorbed by the body over time, and sometimes, the Hyaluronic Acid is resorbed unevenly. This can also lead to lumpiness of the penis. This cannot be solved by molding.
Rare but serious side effects include granuloma formation. This happens when your body reacts to the Hyaluronic Acid in a bad way and forms a hard lump around it. Another rare but serious side effect is skin necrosis. This happens when blood supply is cut off to the skin and a patch of skin dies.
Infection of the penis is another possible side effect. The risk of this is extremely low as most patients will get antibiotics to take after the treatment.
