In this article, we are going to talk about using Hyaluronic Acid to increase penis girth.

This treatment has been practiced by Doctors all around the globe for years. Initially it was rather controversial. However, over time, a large volume of scientific literature has been published on the subject making it a more accepted form of therapy. Many review papers have also been written on treatment effect and safety.

Let’s take a quick look at the current evidence available for this treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid is a gel like substance that is naturally produced by your body. It has many functions including lubricating our joints as well as making our skin flexible and strong. Hyaluronic acid is also good at keeping body parts moisturized. 1ml of Hyaluronic Acid can hold on to 2 liters of water! It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

So it is no wonder that Hyaluronic Acid is used so much in medicine. Its most common uses include injecting Hyaluronic Acid into joints to help lubrication. This is particularly useful for people who suffer from knee pain due to osteoarthritis. Hyaluronic Acid is also commonly used as a filler injected into the face for cosmetic purposes.

You can inject Hyaluronic Acid into the penis?

Yes we can. And many Doctors have done with and published their results in peer reviewed scientific journals.

It is most commonly used as a treatment to increase penis girth. That is to say increase the diameter of the penis shaft. It does not increase penis length. Hyaluronic Acid can also be injected into the head (glans) of the penis but that is usually done to treat Premature Ejaculation and we will discuss this in a separate article.

Injecting Hyaluronic Acid to increase the thickness of the penis shaft is called Penile Girth Enhancement (PGE).

How is it done?

A small puncture is made on the skin. We then use a blunt cannula to find the space under the skin but above the erectile tissue. Hyaluronic Acid is injected into this space. The amount of Hyaluronic Acid injected depends on what the patient requires (or wants).

We may need to gently massage the penis after the injection to ensure the Hyaluronic Acid gel is evenly spread.

Is it painful?

The initial puncture with the needle may be uncomfortable. We can apply a numbing cream beforehand to minimize this discomfort.

The filler we use contains a local anesthetic. So as we inject there is very little to no discomfort.

What happens after?

After the treatment, we bandage up the penis and will advise you to avoid sexual intercourse for 2 to 4 weeks to allow the Hyaluronic Acid to “set”. You should also avoid strenuous physical activities like running and going to the gym.

Getting erections after the treatment is encouraged and will help the Hyaluronic Acid mold into a nicer shape. You can also gently use your hands to mold the Hyaluronic Acid. It is like molding clay under the skin. Molding is easier with an erection as the hard penis will give a firm surface to mold the Hyaluronic Acid on.

How long does it last?

Your body will gradually absorb the Hyaluronic Acid over time. Various published studies report effects lasting from 12 to 18 months.

After which you can decide if you want to undergo another treatment.

Does it make a difference if I am circumcised or not?

For people who are not circumcised, there is a risk of swelling of the foreskin.

Is it safe?

As with any medical procedure, there are possible complications. Therefore it is important to see a Doctor who is experienced with penis Hyaluronic Injections and understand the possible risks before you decide to proceed.

Common possible side effects include bruising, bleeding and blood clots. This risk is higher is you are taking medicines that thin the blood.

Another common possible side effect is lumpiness of the penis. This happens when the Hyaluronic Acid is deposited unevenly. However, this usually can be fixed by molding the penis after the treatment. Also the Hyaluronic Acid is naturally absorbed by the body over time, and sometimes, the Hyaluronic Acid is resorbed unevenly. This can also lead to lumpiness of the penis. This cannot be solved by molding.

Rare but serious side effects include granuloma formation. This happens when your body reacts to the Hyaluronic Acid in a bad way and forms a hard lump around it. Another rare but serious side effect is skin necrosis. This happens when blood supply is cut off to the skin and a patch of skin dies.

Infection of the penis is another possible side effect. The risk of this is extremely low as most patients will get antibiotics to take after the treatment.
