Penis Paraffinoma

Injecting Paraffin into the penis to increase penis girth is very commonly practiced in South East Asia. The injection is commonly done by non-medically trained personnel. This articles discusses the practice, what can go wrong and the treatments available.

Exactly like what the names suggests, this involves injecting Paraffin (or sometimes other oils or substances) into the penis to increase its girth. This is commonly practiced in South East Asia. The injection is usually done by individuals with no or very limited medical training.

What happens after the penis injections?

The Paraffin forms lumps under the skin called Paraffinomas. The location of the injections will determine how the penis will end up looking. If the injections are in the foreskin, the tip of the penis will look lumpy and swollen. If the injections extends closer to the base of the penis then the whole penis can look lumpy and swollen.

These lumps or Paraffinomas are permanent and the only way to get rid of them is to surgically remove them.

What can go wrong after Penis Paraffin injections?

Penis Paraffin infections is a very dangerous procedure and many things can go wrong.

Minor side effects include:

1. Deformed looking lumpy penis

2. Chronic pain in the penis

Moderate side effects include:

1. Recurring infections and inflammation of the penis causing pain, swelling and redness

2. Problems getting and achieving an erection. Or erections can be painful

Serious side effects include:

1. Gangrene of the penis skin

2. Blockage of blood vessels in the penis leading to gangrene of the penis and even requiring amputation of the penis

These are only a few of the possible side effects.

What is the treatment for Penis Paraffinomas?

The only way of removing Paraffinomas from the penis is by surgically removing them.

In most situations, we will also conduct a circumcision at the same time. This is because the foreskin is most likely filled with Paraffin and has to be removed.

If the Paraffin extends more towards the penis base, these will have to be dissected out.

Unfortunately in some cases, the Paraffin is so deep or entrenched that it cannot be removed. However, in the majority of cases, most of the Paraffin can be removed resulting in a much healthier appearance of the penis.

What are the complications after surgery for Penis Paraffinoma?

Compared to conventional circumcisions, there is a higher risk of bleeding after surgery. This is because the skin has been inflamed for a long time due to the Paraffin.

Also, it may take longer for the surgical wound to fully heal.

Also because of the chronic inflammation, there is a higher risk of scarring.

However, for almost all patients, they are much more satisfied with the appearance of the penis after the Paraffin has been removed.

What do I do if I have had Penis Paraffin injections before?

If the injections are not causing you any problems and you are satisfied with the appearance and function of the penis, you can opt not to do anything.

If the Paraffin is causing you pain or recurring infections you should get it removed.
